As most of you may already know we have been remodeling our house since moving in this last February and when I say remodeling I don’t mean just a splat of paint here and there I mean complete overhaul of the entire house! We are right now in the process of building custom barn wood kitchen cabinets so we decided that the kitchen needed a new coat of paint so when I was offered the opportunity to review a paint from The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co., Inc I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to start picking out the paint color!
About The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co., Inc (taken from website):
In 1974, after much experimentation, we recreated an old Milk Paint formula to provide an authentic finish for our primary business of building reproduction furniture. Since then we have sold our paint to professionals who are either restoring original Colonial or Shaker furniture, making reproductions, or striving for an interior design look that is both authentic and beautiful. Milk Paint is now gaining an even wider usage because it contains only ingredients that are all-natural and will not harm the environment. Our authentic real milk paint is truely a "green paint" that comes in 20 colors.
Our Thoughts:
We had the chance to choose a color of paint for our kitchen walls and it took us some time to finally agree on the same color but we ended up choosing the Tavern Green SafePaint and we were also sent a gallon of Snow White SafePaint incase we wanted to lighten the color of the green.
Now this paint comes in a powder form and you mix it with water to make the appropriate amount you will be needing to do your painting so we went ahead and mixed a whole gallon in a bucket.
Mixing the paint was super easy and my hubby didn’t have any problems what so ever! We did end up adding a small amount of Snow White powder to the Tavern Green powder to lighten it up just a little bit and we love the color result we got!
Before:
After:
So as you can see from the photos it’s very green but since we are going for the farm house look in our kitchen with the gray barn wood cabinets and rusted tin counter tops this color is absolutely amazing and once the whole kitchen is finished it’s going to look absolutely beautiful!
The paint went on very smooth and the finished look is wonderful to me it gives the feeling of an old fashioned farm house and that was exactly the look we were going for! The clean up on this paint is super easy and quick as well! Chad did tape off the majority of the kitchen but he is kind of a super messy painter and ended up getting some on our flooring (which we are going to replace anyway) and it wiped up easily with a damp paper towel!
Another thing I love about this paint is that it doesn’t have a strong paint odor and we were able to paint without having to open all the windows and doors and the smell that it did have wasn’t bad and didn’t linger in our home like some of the other paints we have used!
Bottom Line:
We are very pleased with the results we got from the SafePaint and I feel the color is a perfect match for our whole country farm house theme we are going for! I love that this paint is so easy to mix, apply and clean up after! I love the finish of the paint well heck we just love this paint in everyway!
This is the absolute best paint we have every used (and we have used lots of paints)! All we had to do was one coat and it covered the gray that was already there perfectly! I will now be using paint from Old Fashioned Milk Paint for all of my future painting needs (and there are quite a few)!!
I think if you have children in your home and are looking to freshen up a room with a new coat of paint you should really consider SafePaint, you won’t be disappointed!

This is perfect timing! Just what I need! I have been looking for something like this for a long time and here it is! I am from back east so know about milk paint.
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you the sad story. We took a patio door out of our room and patched the wall. So we picked out a new paint color to match a color in our bedspread and I started painting. 7 hours later I was almost done and poured the last of the paint into the tray. Well, it was a different color. I have painted for 35 years and this has never happened and even though I stirred it often it must have stayed on the top. So I was almost done and I couldn't finish. I also decided I HATE the bland ugly poopy color! And since this is our master bedroom, I want it to look really pretty! So.....I am heading for a different color. I really love the Bayberry Green SafePaint on here and think it would look very rich and lovely-elegant.
