Glee Gum Make Your Own Gummies Kit Review and Giveaway (Christmas Wish List 2010)

I love to cook and bake around the holidays and the thing that I love most about cooking and baking around this time of the year is having my little helper right in the middle of all the mess just working away, I think it’s super important to get your kiddos involved in holiday traditions early on so it will be a lasting tradition for them for the years to come. So when I was asked about reviewing a Make Your Own Candy Kit from Glee Gum I just couldn’t pass it up!

About Glee Gum Make Your Own Candy Kits (Taken From Website):

Connect kids to the global community by tracing the origins of raw materials we encounter in our daily lives. Our gum kit uses natural chicle. Our chocolate kit includes organic cocoa butter from Costa Rica, and the gummy kit contains carrageenan made from seaweed from the Philippines.

Create something exciting and delicious. At Verve, we believe people learn by doing. By creating delicious edible treats with our kits, kids also create connections to each other, between various fields of studies, and to other communities and cultures.

Captivate kids' interest. Kids have always loved to stir, mix, touch and taste our great activity kits. Now children can make yummy treats while learning about: the rainforest, ethnobotany, chemistry, mathematics and measurement, ecology and environmental issues, home economics, nutrition, the oceans and more!

Our Thoughts:

I was sent the Make Your Own Gummies Kit from Glee Gum and I have to admit that when it arrived in my mail box I could not wait to get started, I think I was more excited than my kiddo and little cousin! Our kit arrived very quickly but we did have some issues with the directions and powdered seaweed missing from the box, I contacted customer service and within just a few days we had our directions and powered seaweed so I definitely have to give the customer service of Glee Gum 5+ stars for being super nice and helpful!

Here is the kiddos getting ready to get started making our gummies (sorry but this is the only photo I got, due to forgetting about taking pictures we were having so much fun!!!)

Here is a bit about the Make Your Own Gummies Kit (Taken from website):

Make your own gummies out of seaweed! Everything you need is included in this kit and it's easy! You can make your own gummi bears, gummi worms, gummi fish or any other shape. Make gummies on the stove or with a microwave. Great for class room activities, scout troops, birthday parties, home school, or after school groups. Adult supervision is recommended. Makes a great gift for kids (ages 8 & up)!

Inside each Make Your Own Gummies Kit you'll find: sour mix, colored and flavored sugar, powdered seaweed, seaweed, molding starch, instructions and the story of carrageenan.

All you have to do is wash the seaweed and boil it for a few minutes until the carrageenan is extracted. Then take out the seaweed itself, mix in the sugar, boil it again, pour it in the molds, and then add the sour mix! That's it - you have made your own yummy gummies!

So now that we got the deets out of the way back to the review!! I have to say that making our own gummies was so much easier than I had originally thought and to be quite honest it didn’t take very long at all to have our own delicious gummies to eat! The whole process was so simple just follow the simple directions as described above and you have your gummies. We used the molding starch and used the magnetic letters that stick to the refrigerator (washed of course) to spell out the kiddos names for their gummies and they turned out so awesome and the kids really had a great time making their own molds and eating their gummy names :0)!

Bottom Line:

We all really had a blast making our own gummies and I would recommend these kits to everyone who is looking to spend a little extra time in the kitchen with the kiddos this holiday season and the sweetest part of all after you get them made you can share a delsih little treat with your little one that they helped create and I think that’s what makes this kit most special.

I think that any kiddo would love to find one of Glee Gum’s Make Your Own Candy Kits in their stocking or under the tree this year. Best of all they are super affordable and are super fun to make with your kids!!!
