Emile Henry New Flame Pizza Stone Review & Giveaway

One of my husbands favorite things to fix on his nights to cook is his famous handmade pizza and mini pizzas so when it’s his night to cook “Bug” and I know that it’s probably going be pizza but the one thing I really disliked about his pizza nights….well cooking pizza rather it be frozen, bring home and bake or his handmade pizzas is our stinky pizza pan you know the one, yep its one of the really cheap ones that we got when we bought our first house and it really sucks at cooking pizzas they never get fully done in the middle without burning the outsides and they tend to stick really bad no matter how much non-stick spray we use on the pan so when I had the opportunity to review the New Flame Pizza Stone from Emile Henry my husband and I were both pretty excited!

About Emile Henry (Taken From Website):
Founded in 1850, and located in Marcigny, a small town in the province of Burgundy, France, Emile Henry has established a worldwide reputation for manufacturing the finest quality ceramic ovenware, gourmet cooking products, and bakeware products. Still owned and operated by the Henry family, the company today manufactures all of their new cooking products from Burgundy clay using their proprietary Ceradon® state-of-the-art manufacturing process.

Burgundy is noted for world-famous wines that are grown in the mineral-rich limestone soils of the region. Imparting fantastic terrior in the wines, it is these soils and clays that go into the special clay cookware-crafting formulas that are the basis of all Emile Henry ceramic cookware and other products.

Worldwide, professional chefs and home cooks appreciate Emile Henry for the many products and shapes that are properly designed for cooking and baking. The products have the right dimensions, the correct depth and the special features that make Emile Henry products so desirable for everyone that enjoys cooking and eating great foods. We offer cookware products such as baking dishes and cake stands, and the discerning gourmand will recognize the quality in every loaf pan, casserole dish, stew pot, handcrafted pie dish, trivet, tagine, and brazier we create.

Burgundy clay evenly and slowly diffuses cooking heat to the very center of the cooking dish. Food is cooked evenly, which brings out the flavors and aromas. Burgundy clay has superior heat retention properties which keep food hot and more flavorsome when resting on the dining table or on a kitchen sideboard.

All Emile Henry products are direct freezer-to-oven. They exhibit extraordinary thermal shock properties. They go under the broiler and in the microwave.

Emile Henry products do not chip or crack easily. One can cut directly on the surface without scratching or damaging the product.

The surfaces do not trap and hold baked on or burnt food. Cleaning is remarkably easy. All Emile Henry products can go in the dishwasher.
There is no lead or cadmium in our products, all of the glazes meet California Prop 65, and all of the products are 100% food safe. Offered in a large variety of colors, the glazes will not craze, discolor or fade over time.

All Emile Henry products carry a limited household ten (10) year warranty (except Pizza Stone which is 2 years) against breakage due to defective workmanship.

Our Thoughts:

As I stated above we got the amazing opportunity to review one of Emile Henry’s New Flame Pizza Stone in the Figue color (looks like a really deep dark purple to me) and I have to say when it arrived my husband acted like it was Christmas or something because he immediately went to hand wash and pre-heat the stone to start making his famous handmade mini pizzas for lunch!

Here is the specs about the New Flame Pizza Stone (taken from website):

The Emile Henry Pizza Stone makes brick-oven style pizzas in ovens and on grills. Heats up in 15 minutes. Cleans easily. Light weight. Made in France.

The Pizza Stone is made of all natural materials and is manufactured using Emile Henry's proprietary Flame® technology. The Pizza Stone can withstand high oven temperatures. The glaze is micro-crazed contributing to crispy well-baked crusts, just like a pizza oven. If the Pizza Stone is used on the stovetop, heat slowly and place on the largest burner. You can cut directly on the glazed pizza stone without damaging or scratching the surface. The Pizza Stone is easy to clean with soap and water and is dishwasher safe.

Designed for use: In ovens - conventional and convection; and can also be used under the broiler. On grills - gas, charcoal and natural wood. The Pizza Stone turns a grill into an outdoor pizza oven.

Chad decided he was really going to put this pizza stone to the test so he didn’t spray it with non-stick cooking spray even though I insisted, but to my complete amazement the pizzas came out very nice, fully cooked and not sticking to the pizza stone! These were some of the best mini pizzas he had ever made since they were fully cooked and not missing pieces of the bottom of them due to them sticking!

Now was the real test for me since he had gotten some cheese on the pizza stone that melted so I figured I was going to have to scrape and scrub but all I had to do was put in the warm dishwater and in no time with no scrubbing it wiped right off so clean up is defiantly an easy one, much better than our old pizza pan that we had to scrape and scrub to get it clean!

Not only have we used the pizza stone for handmade pizzas I’ve also used it on frozen pizzas and with the quick warm up time by the time the oven is pre-heated the pizza stone is ready to cook and I have never had a frozen pizza come out full cooked and not burnt on the bottom! I’m also loving that I can use my pizza cutter directly on the pizza stone and I don’t get those ugly cut marks like I have in my old pizza pan!

Bottom Line:
We love our new Emile Henry Pizza Stone and we have used it quite a bit over the past few weeks and I feel we get the same if not better results with our pizzas as the pizza places do themselves and now we prefer to cook our own pizzas than order carry out!

I really want to say thank you to Emile Henry for bringing handmade pizza back into our home and I also want to say goodbye to my old pizza pan that has found a new home out in my son’s mud pie box (sorry) LOL! If you are looking for the perfect pizza stone to create pizzeria style pizza at home you should really look into getting yourself one of the New Flame Pizza Stones from Emile Henry!
