Emotes Review and Giveaway

I am constantly on the look out for new books and products that help promote sharing feelings and teaching my son how to express his feelings so when I came across Emotes I knew that I wanted to try these books and Emotes out on my son to see if it could help him understand his feelings and teach him how to express them in a positive way.

About Emotes(Taken From Website):The goal of the Emotes project is to help young people increase their emotional intelligence and boost their emotional vocabulary—the ability to put feelings into words.  The Emotes books, comics, toys, and interactive web content provide children with an engaging way to explore and express their emotions.

Each Emotes character represents a different emotion, and therefore mirrors a child’s own emotions.  In this way, children are able to externalize and literally interact with their emotions while having fun along the way.  Through play, children learn about themselves, and discover how to express and channel their emotions in healthy and constructive ways.

Children face many challenges as they grow up in our increasingly complex world. Peer pressure, bullying and prejudice can leave a child feeling alone and insecure.  At the core of the Emotes message is love—love for others and ourselves.  Love is an extremely powerful emotion.  It provides encouragement and support when the world seems hopeless and disappointing.  The Emotes emphasize the importance of expressing and accepting this important emotion.  They model forgiveness and acceptance despite differences between us, and help us to better understand confusing feelings such as jealousy and fear. All of this contributes to the development of a healthy social and emotional intelligence.

The Emotes team invites educators, parents, psychologists and professionals to use this new set of fun and nurturing tools to help young people learn to identify and express their feelings.

Our Thoughts:

We were sent a copy of Bubba Under Pressure and Cant Loses His Cool books and a Mascot of both Bubba and Cant! I have to say when I first received them and opened the box I thought oh these are so adorable! I just love the mascots they are soft and just the right size for “Bug” to play with! He was really excited about both books and the mascots, I’m truly blessed that “Bug” really loves books and he can set for hours on end looking at and having us read books to him so we have read these two books many times!

Bubba Under Pressure is about the Emote Bubba who loves to paint, but his friend Mixy talks him into doing things that doesn’t make him happy because he tells Bubba “he isn’t cool” if he doesn’t do it. In the end both Bubba and Mixy learns that it is very important to stay true to yourself and do what makes you happy and not what others want you to do just because it’s “the cool thing to do”! I really like this book because I think it teaches a most important lesson that all children and teens should learn!

Cant Looses His Cool is about the Emote Cant that is super excited to go to the mall and pick up the brand new “Amazing-Fabulous-Awesomely-Spectacular Digiball” on the first day it is released in the store but he doesn’t get to be first in the line nor does he get to buy the Digiball before it’s all sold out and he gets super angry and looses his cool and throws a very nasty tantrum! But with the help of his friend Bubba and A-Net he is able to calm down and express his feelings in words and not by having a tantrum! I also really like this book because for “Bug” he is in that stage that when he wants something now he don’t want to wait and I think being able to refer back to this book with him and with a bit of work it will help him express himself more with words and less tantrums.

Both of these books have very lovely illustrations and “Bug” really liked to look at the pictures and point out and name the Emotes as well as he was able to tell me what they were feeling by the looks on their face either happy, sad, mad ect! I as a mother really like these books and I am defiantly going to recommend these to anyone with children of any age! I think the younger you start working with the children the better but I feel these books would be great for older kids as well. I found them very easy to read and entertaining and I will be on the lookout to add other books of Emotes to this collection since “Bug” really enjoyed them.

We also love their website “Bug” has had a blast watching the videos and learning about the different Emotes and I think its wonderful that not only can the children learn thru the books but also on the website and for the parents they have some awesome information on different emotions and how to deal with them and that pretty darn cool!
