Coghlan’s Bug-Eye Headlight Review and Giveaway

Living in a small country town in Arkansas, growing up we were taught to be outdoors to play and we were always discovering different types of wildlife, fish and bugs, so naturally when my husband and I had our son we knew that we would be raising him the same way to love and enjoy the outdoors to their fullest. The one thing we didn’t know however is how much he would actually enjoy the outdoors and one of his favorite things to do is go bug hunting hence his nickname “Bug”! Recently we were given the opportunity to review a product from Coghlan’s kid line and we were all very excited to choose the Bug-Eye Headlight!

About Coghlan‘s (taken from website):

The Outdoor Accessory People.
Coghlan’s Ltd. is recognized as the world leader in outdoor camping accessories. Founded in 1959 and based in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; Coghlan’s is a family owned company and has built its reputation on core values of product quality and innovation. And it all started with a toaster...

Prior to forming his own company, Norm Coghlan sold lanterns, camp stoves, lamps, mantles and parts primarily to the hardware market in the United States and Canada. In 1959, he bought a small service depot in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and operated it as a private company. At that time, the newly born Coghlan’s Gas Appliances concentrated on the natural gas heating market that was opening up in Winnipeg. Norm Coghlan also added camping equipment such as tents, sleeping bags and air mattresses. There were many campers that would come in to bring their camp stoves and lanterns in for repair and they also bought and rented other camping equipment and accessories as well.

Norm was aware that customers wanted a way to make toast on their pump-up gasoline camp stove.

Such an item was already being manufactured by a U.S. based company and they sold very readily in Coghlan’s retail store. After inquiring with the toaster manufacturer, Norm found out that the toaster was being discontinued. Norm bought the entire inventory, rented a storage facility and this began Coghlan’s distribution of camping accessories. The Camp Stove Toaster has been made in Winnipeg, Manitoba since the mid-1960s. Coghlan’s has assembled and packaged over 7 million 504D Toasters.

Coghlan’s success in the camping industry is centered around 3 core attributes: a strong focus on superior customer service, our service representatives have an average of 20 years experience and product knowledge expertise; smart inventory management and marketing better quality products. With the added combination of technology and central warehouse locations in Winnipeg, Canada and St. Paul, Minnesota, Coghlan’s is the leading outdoor accessory supplier in United States and Canada.
Coghlan’s distribution is worldwide: products are sold throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Today, there are over 450 accessories designed to enhance the outdoor experience making it more comfortable and enjoyable. Whether camping, fishing, hiking, trekking through the wildness or just relaxing at a favorite park for a family picnic; our accessories have been tried and tested by outdoor enthusiasts for nearly 5 decades.

Our Thoughts:

We were sent a Bug-Eye Headlight for kids to review and I must say that “Bug” was quite happy when it arrived and immediately took it from his daddy and strictly told him it was his bug light! Now, just to give you some back ground “Bug” and Chad fight over flashlights of all kinds and it’s not like we don’t have a million laying around but they want to bicker and pick over the littlest lights so it was quite a victory for “Bug” when he found out that the Bug-Eye Headlight was indeed just for him!

With the weather being cold and well down right nasty with snow as of late we haven’t really gotten to get out much to test out the Bug-Eye Headlight but luckily for us we do have an ant farm that “Bug” has spent quite a bit of time checking out with his new Bug-Eye Headlight. “Bug” has used his new light for much more than just looking for bugs since it arrived, it also makes a great headlight for his nighttime missions into the dark hall and down to his bedroom to find a lost toy, which is great considering he wouldn’t go in the dark by himself no matter what toy he just had to have, but now he happily puts on his Bug-Eye Headlight to trace down his toys in the dark. I love that it is light weight so it makes it easy for him to carry or wear on his head (his favorite way to explore by the way) and that the LED bright white light that doesn’t ever need to be replaced, how’s that for convenient???

I also have had the opportunity to try out the Bug-Eye Headlight myself although I didn’t wear it on my head, I have used it to look behind tight spaces for things and also to make trips out to my car at night without having to turn on the porch light which I have a terrible habit of not turning back off! I also keep it by the bed at night for when “Bug” or I need to make a trip to the bathroom or to get a drink so we don’t turn on the overhead light and wake daddy up!

Bottom Line:

“Bug” absolutely loves his Bug-Eye Headlight and I have a feeling that it will continue to get used daily and even more this spring/summer when we can get out and go camping and exploring Arkansas!
